GESTALT – Ban & Holly
(ocampo-mouth-flower, 2008)
Closure: We percieve a face from the elements, even though it is ‘unfinished’, our mind fills in the information.
Proximity: The proximity of the elements are akin to that of a face’s natural proportions such as the distance of the nose & mouth from the eyes, which helps us percieve the face in the artwork.
Similarity: There is a certain sense of similarity evident in the artwork as all the elements are taken from nature.
(Escape, 2012)
Continuation: The subject matter creates a sort of arrow formation if traced, which help us percieve their direction.
Common Fate: The direction of the artwork is obvious. The subject matter is following down to the bottom right.
Figure & Ground: the main focus of the artwork is the people and the animals, but the boat in the background adds interest to the picture because it adds to the narrative of the picture.
(Flavour Injection, 2012)
Similarity: Even though the beans are an equal distance apart and the same size & shape, their colour seperates them into two seperate groups.
Figure & Ground: The background is very much blurred out, letting us concentrate on the syringe and jelly beans. This blurring method basically forces us to focus on the subject matter.
Common Fate: The way the syringe is leaning and the task it’s completing creates a sense of direction going from right to left.
