week 8 task

Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec (Nov 24, 1864 – Sep 9, 1901). He was a french illustrator, printmaker and painter (more belonging to the end of the 19th century and maybe just the very beginning of the 20th) he is one of my favourite artists of the past. Lautrec belongs to the Post- Impressionist period. Born in an aristocratic family in France, he immersed himself in art from a very early age. Many say that his medical/physical condition was one of the reasons he found more desire to succeed and express himself in art.

His most famous works are musical and theatrical provocative posters that amaze till present day. Bold vivid colours, precise lines of drawings, visual simplicity – all created with great mastery. I especially like the colour choice of yellows and oranges and reds contrasted with black. The inspirations from Lautrec’s works can be well found in poster art these days. The colour choices and the simplicity of drawings – reflecting the theme/idea to perfection.
